Sweet Sugar Mangos highlighted in Forbes

Goldenberry Farms Sweet Sugar Mango® highlights Colombian mango exports

BOGOTA, COL - Forbes Colombia has recently highlighted Goldenberry Farms miniature mango as one of the peaks of the country’s rising export scene.

Goldenberry Farms, a sustainable producer of tropical fruits and one of the ‘Forbes 2024 Top 30 Brands with Promise’, realized this opportunity and registered the brand ‘sugar mango’ in the US market to export this variety, although it is also sold under the name ‘baby mango’ or in its Spanish ‘mango de azúcar’, the registration of the brand gives them a competitive advantage in supermarkets in this country.

The company did an export pilot last year of between 5 and 6 tons and this year it will send 27 tons. “We are still adapting to the shipping protocol,” said Carlos Leal, business developer of the company, who also believes that it is a matter of time to send large volumes of this variety of mango to the United States. “The potential that mango has is huge, it is one of the richest fruits we have in Colombia,” he said in an interview with Forbes Colombia.

MORE THAN A TREND.

Colombia exported 10,100 tons of mango in 2023, a small volume compared to sales abroad in Peru, Brazil and Mexico. However, new players in this industry are ready to increase their export volumes and exceed passionfruit exports - 14,200 tons - within two or three years.

For many years, the idea of exporting mango was not very interesting for Colombian entrepreneurs, the attractiveness of the business was difficult to see: the entry of fresh fruit to countries in North America, Asia and Europe requires complex paperwork and long and expensive procedures, national demand is high and other countries had already dominated the segment internationally.

It was not until relatively recently that some agribusiness entrepreneurs such as Goldenberry Farms have decided to invest in the task of complying with the bureaucracy to sell the product abroad. Colombian mango began to be sold around 2015 in Europe, shortly before the pandemic it arrived in Asia and in 2022 it began to be marketed in the United States.
