Goldenberry Farms implements GRASP Workplace Safety Protocols

In an ongoing commitment to raise the bar for agribusiness in Latin America and beyond, Goldenberry Farms™ has required Global GRASP as a base certification for all facilities.

April 1, 2021 - Medellin, Colombia - Good agricultural practices aren’t just about products; they are also about people. For this reason, Global G.A.P members developed GRASP – a GLOBAL G.A.P. add-on certification with a commitment to workplace environment, adopted by leading producers and farms including Goldenberry Farms™.

A commitment to Workers' Health, Safety, and Welfare.

GRASP stands for GLOBAL G.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice. It is a voluntary, ready-to-use module developed to assess social practices on the farm and facilities, such as specific aspects of workers’ health, safety, and welfare.

Harmonizing Good Social Practice

Legal requirements regarding the control points (such as minimum wage, age of legal employment, working hours, etc.) differ from country to country. Where the requirements are stricter, local legislation takes precedence over GRASP.

Where there is no legislation (or legislation is not so strict), GRASP provides the minimum compliance criteria for a good social management system.

GRASP core foundational items are ensuring that there is clear worker organization, a clear way for grievances or concerns to be voiced, clear access to national labor regulations, contracts or written agreements for work, paychecks with pay stubs, time recording systems, and access to educational tools.

In addition, as a strict part of GRASP, minimum ages are rigorously checked, and no children are allowed in a workplace or on a field. Separate zones or educational facilities are setup for children to engage in their recreational or educational activities.

Goldenberry Farms™ works to actively educate buyers globally, who might be unaware of social practices including child labor and unregulated labor hours, and stresses the importance of always working with farms and facilities which are certified and accredited to these basic standards.
